The award-winning Cochran Wrenn Duo weaves engaging commentary into their programming, exploring connecting threads that interlace tango, contemporary classical, and jazz-infused works. Formed in 2011, the Cochran Wrenn Duo has performed main stage concerts at Assumption College, First Night Worcester, Gore Place, and UMass Worcester. They were also featured on the televised program Chronicle (WCVB)—spotlighted for their community performance work with the Marlborough Cultural District Initiative. In concerts, flutist Bonnie Cochran and guitarist Bryan Wrenn illuminate the compositions and the collaborative process, offering audiences insights and context to listen with new ears.
The Duo's inventive programming ranges from works by Ravel, Piazzolla, Kusiak, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco, to their original arrangements of Chick Corea's Spain, Bach flute sonatas, and American folk songs. Committed to expanding the repertoire for flute and guitar, the duo recently commissioned composer Cody Forrest to write Lux Arcana for the duo plus wind ensemble to perform with advanced student and professional ensembles. Lux Arcana was premiered last year with the Marlborough High School Wind Ensemble as the culmination of a year-long residency. The Cochran Wrenn Duo was recognized for this residency with the Boston Conservatory Alumni Entrepreneurial Award, two Marlborough Cultural Council Grants, and as a finalist in the National Flute Association Arts Venture Competition.
