The purpose of the “Know Your Rights” workshop is to teach attendees about their constitutional rights and how to exercise them in encounters with law enforcement.
● Learn about their 6th amendment (right to a trial), 5th amendment (right to remain silent), and 4th amendment (freedom from unreasonable search and seizure) constitutional rights.
● Understand how to assert their rights in police encounters.
● Comprehend the different thresholds police must meet to escalate encounters with civilians; understand “probable cause” & “reasonable suspicion.”
● Learn about who to contact if their rights are violated.
Meeting details will be shared with registered recipients a few days before the event. This workshop, hosted by the Boston Public Library in partnership with ACLU of Massachusetts, is for teens in grades 6 through 12 (including 2020 high school grads). See you there!
