As natural storytellers and documentarians, humans have long understood sound as a medium to capture, interpret, and communicate ideas and feelings. Though society has had the tools to transmit voice and audio to mass audiences for over a century, advents in technology within the past ten years or so have places those same tools onto many of our desktop computers, mobile devices, and more. True audio engineering is more than simply hitting “Record,” however; there is an art form that emerges from a strong understanding of this widely available tech—one that has the potential to craft poems, stories, and sonic experiences that stir the spirit and influence the mind.

Join audio producer Julianna Bradley, creator and host of the youth-centric Inherited podcast, for an introductory exploration of some of these tools and techniques. In this 90-minute session, teen registrants will use FREE audio tools Anchor and Audacity as well as sample audio clips – optionally including their own voices! – to compose a variety of soundscapes or spoken-word explorations. Should you like what you hear, you can also join Julianna in her full, 4-session audio course starting in late October.
