Lily and Frank have retired to Frank's hometown in North Carolina. There, Lily sifts through old letters, notes, and diary entries as a she writes a family history for their children. Meanwhile, Frank looks for lingering traces of unsavory family secrets at his childhood home, triggering unpleasant memories in the current occupant Shelley, a young, single mother who just wants to give her son some kind of a normal upbringing.
