FUTUREFOOD: Eastie Edition came about as a result of a collaboration between FUTUREFOOD and Eastie Farm. Initially the project which started during the 2020 growing season was centered around exploring East Boston's long-term food future from the the present to the year 2100. The pandemic intervened, and 2020 became the focus, with gathering in public suddenly impossible, and the food insecurity of the future arriving far sooner. Volunteers from not only FUTUREFOOD AND Eastie Farm came together to source food, plan and produce meals, and distribute not only delicious dishes and ingredients, but knowledge, resources, and support. FUTUREFOOD: Eastie Edition celebrates that journey.
The exhibition, including, printed content, hand-made textiles, and digital media art on window facades, bookshelves and walls, celebrates the resiliency of Eastie, highlighting how community-building and community-visioning in times of pandemic and climate change can be cultivated through urban farming, cooking, and mutual aid.
