Today's 12:30 Concerts in the Courtyard performance with Ming Yang will be held in Rabb Hall (in the lower level of the Boylston Street Building) due to the existing heat advisory. We expect to open the hall doors to patrons sometime between 12:00 and 12:15 (or as soon as the performer is set-up and sound checks have taken place).
Join us for a percussion performance by Ming Yang as part of our Friday lunchtime concerts that feature local musicians playing a range of genres. This concert is also part of our Revolutionary Music: Music and Social Change programmatic theme.
Ming Yang is a Taiwanese percussionist and educator. She specializes in keyboard, classical, contemporary, and chamber percussion. After receiving her M.M. in marimba performance at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, she is now based in Boston and has been teaching and performing in the Boston area.
Ming has performed with several different professional orchestras. During her time in Taiwan, she served four years as a percussionist for the Philharmonia Moments Musicaux. As a solo musician, Ming has competed internationally. Notably in 2017, Ming placed 3rd in the Australian Marimba Competition. Ming has participated in several festivals in different countries including Japan, France, Taiwan, and China. She has performed with leading artists and musicians including Keiko Abe, Anders Astrand, JB Leclere, and Isao Nakamura.
Ming is passionate about sharing music from her culture, as her roots have always been her artistic drive. She has commissioned several solo marimba pieces based on folk songs from Taiwan, or her own stories from Asian composers. These include Percubo (2019), Egret (2022), Ocean (2022), and 2300 (2022).
Registration is not required but the limited amount of seating is first come, first served. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to the Rabb Lecture Hall.
