Do you have a box full of photographs, or a drawer full of old letters? Are you exploring ways of sharing your family or community history? BPL Community History invites you to scan up to five (5):
BPL staff will digitize your materials. You will keep your original documents and receive digital copies on a USB flash drive to take home. You may choose to add these scanned items to Digital Commonwealth (note: this is entirely optional!). Library staff will be on hand to answer your questions about basic digital preservation and research resources at BPL.
Limited space is available. Registration is required. When you arrive, you will be given a number in line for your turn to scan. There will be a waiting area and activities to keep you entertained as you wait. Bathrooms and water will be easily accessible.
This program is a pilot for the BPL’s Mobile Memory Lab, a collaboration between Community History and Digital Services, made possible with generous support from the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics, and drawing great inspiration from UMass Boston’s Roadmap for Participatory Archiving (RoPA).
