Charles on the Charles: How Boston Inspired Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ - with Natalie McKnight

6:30 PM – 7:30 PM
Central Library in Copley Square

Description

Join us in partnership with The Commonwealth Shakespeare Company for an in-person talk on the origins of A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens with Professor Natalie McKnight.

The lecture will be followed by an audience Q&A.

Charles Dickens stayed in Boston in 1842 at the start of his first tour of America and then again in 1867-68 to begin and end his American reading tour. Dickens Scholar and the Dramaturg for Commonwealth Shakespeare Company’s dazzling new production of Charles Dickens’ ‘ A Christmas Carol’ describes how Boston, and the city of Lowell, which he also visited, shaped the iconic story of Scrooge and his redemption.
