In March, the Brighton Branch's nonfiction book club will discuss Phantom Lady: Hollywood Producer Joan Harrison, the Forgotten Woman Behind Hitchcock by Christina Lane.
Print copies available at the Brighton Branch front desk, while supplies last.
Nonfiction Night reads nonfiction across a wide variety of subjects. We typically
meet on the third Thursday of the month, 6:30 pm at the Brighton Branch,
barring holidays or special events. No registration required, you're
welcome to drop in. We also welcome readers who decided not to or
weren't able to finish the book –– as long as you're okay with spoilers!
About the book:
In 1933, Joan Harrison was a twenty-six-year-old with a dream. A few short years later, she was Alfred Hitchcock’s confidante and one of the Oscar-nominated screenwriters of his first American film, Rebecca. A respected powerhouse, she acquired a reputation for running smooth productions — and defying anyone who posed an obstacle. She even helped to break the Hollywood blacklist.
This is a dive into Hollywood history and the story of a woman who did it all on her own terms.
