Join City of Boston Public Archaeologist Nadia Kline for a discussion of colonial gravestone iconography in Brighton’s 1764 Market Street Burying Ground. Nadia will discuss early gravestone carving, the imagery of death, and the social importance of mourning in 18th and 19th century New England.
You can also follow up this presentation by spending a spooky Saturday exploring the Market Street Burying Ground! On Saturday October 11, 11:00 am - 2:00 pm, the Allston-Brighton Historical Society will open the usually locked cemetery gates for the public to visit in-person. The burying grounds are just down the street from the Brighton Branch at 356-358 Market Street.
