About the Exhibition:
The Roslindale Branch, in partnership with the Friends of the Roslindale Branch Library, are proud to host an exhibit of work by artist Renée DeKona featuring the team at the City of Boston Animal Care and Control shelter. These images portray the love and kindness that radiates from the dedicated staff, and highlights some of the animals and their humans who benefit from the services of the shelter. The exhibition is on view from Thursday, November 19 through Friday, December 27 (during operational hours). Please note the gallery is not available to view when library programs are in progress in the room.
A public reception will be held at the library on Saturday, December 13 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. Come meet the photographer and some of the team from the shelter.
About the Artist:
Renée DeKona has worked for over twenty-five years as a photojournalist at The Cape Cod Times and The Boston Herald. During that time she covered assignments as wide-ranging as an expedition to dig up pirate booty on Cape Cod to the crisis of child abuse in the Catholic Church. These days, Renée has been phasing out of professional work and turning her energy to subjects closer to her heart. More work by Renée can be viewed at her online portfolio.
About the Shelter:
The City of Boston Animal Care and Control shelter is located at 26 Mahler Road in Roslindale. At the shelter, you can adopt a pet, buy or renew a dog license, file a lost pet report, or bring in a found pet. They also offer low-cost spay and neuter services and provide general help and information about pets and animals. In 2024, the team reunited 421 stray dogs with their families, responded to 7,000 calls from all across Boston, and provided short-term care for 51 dogs, cats, and stray animals whose families experienced extreme hardship.
