Computers for Beginners Week 1: Using Windows 11—Getting Started

2:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Central Library in Copley Square

Description

This class is for people who are new to computers, or just want a refresher. We'll start with the basics and help you feel comfortable using a computer. This is the first class in a 4-week series. We'll cover:

  • Computer Parts: We'll learn about the main parts of a computer, like the screen (monitor), keyboard, mouse, and the computer itself. We'll talk about what each part does.
  • Hardware vs. Software: We'll explain the difference between hardware (the things you can touch, like the keyboard) and software (the programs that make the computer work).
  • Manage windows: Adjusting the screen (make them big, small, or close them).
  • Using a Mouse: We'll practice using a mouse. You'll learn how to click, double-click, drag things, and scroll. This will help you move around the computer easily.

Space is limited, so registering is highly recommended to secure your spot! Need help signing up or have questions? Give us a call at 617-859-2323 or send an email to computerworkshops@bpl.org. Let's build your computer confidence together!

This is a class series where one registration covers all sessions. Simply sign up for any class in the series, and you'll be registered for all of them!

Please note: If you miss two classes, you will be removed from the class registration to allow other students to join.

Series Topics:

  • February 25 @ 2:30 PM: Getting Started
  • March 4 @ 2:30 PM: Internet and Browsers
  • March 11 @ 2:30 PM: Saving and Finding Files
  • March 18 @ 2:30 PM: Internet Safety

Separate Mouse & Keyboard Class (February 18 @ 2:30 PM)

If you need to refresh your mouse and keyboard skills, consider our standalone Click & Type: Your First Steps with Computers class. This is a separate registration and does not register you for this series (and vice versa). Think of it as a prerequisite if you need to get reacquainted with these basics.
