Women and Rice Cultural Traditions (Class 2: Swedish Rice)

12:00 PM – 2:00 PM
Shaw-Roxbury

Description

Please join us for cooking programs in March as we focus on the interconnectedness of women and rice. From the history of rice to the various ways, it is prepared in the home.

We look forward to learning from this month’s presenters, and we welcome hearing personal experiences and/or techniques on cooking rice from class participants.

For our next entry in the Women and Rice series, learn how to make Kåldolmar, Swedish cabbage rolls! Kåldolmar, the Swedish answer to stuffed grape leaves, are filled with a savory, slightly sweet filling of ground meat and rice. Joined by our Chef in Residence, this class will be led by guest instructor, Olivia Counter. Olivia is a recipe developer, food editor, and culinary instructor, having spent time at The Kitchen, America's Test Kitchen, and the Cambridge School of Culinary Arts. Olivia's cooking style and techniques are heavily influenced by her African American and Swedish roots.
