Edith Pearlman's finely crafted stories are rich in detail, filled with characters that saunter off the page. It's been a while since I've felt inspired to share what I'm reading. In an industry filled with male voices and a masculine gaze, I treasure the rare, strong woman who writes about life with a mature perspective.
Edith Pearlman is, quite simply, shockingly talented. What's more shocking is that hardly anyone has heard of her. And since she's in her late 70s (the last I heard), I didn't expect to see anything else from her. But I just got a head's-up from Amazon saying she has a book of new stories being released tomorrow (Jan 6, 2015). I sincerely hope she lives long enough to see the broader success she so richly deserves. I agree with the others commenting here: her stories are among the best I've ever read. I would give her ten stars if I could!
Yes, it's one of the best books of short stories I have read. She's right up there with Alice Munro.
Wonderful book of short stories. Many different characters and subjects--all entertaining and many thought-provoking as well. Highly recommend.
