Add a CommentA Roald Dahl book with a good moral at the end. The family likes hunting for fun, and the girl next door uses her magic finger to teach them a lesson about being hunted. "Oh, that magic finger, I cried. What has it done to my friends."
I found the huge ducks and the idea of eating the apples the way described hilarious!
Quentin Blake's illustrations are great.
This is a great book for children. The illustrations by Tony Ross are a great accompaniment to Roald Dahl's prose. I really enjoyed the magic/fantasy element to this story. My only disappointment is that the little girl wasn't named. And without her there wouldn't have been a story. Please note that young readers may have trouble reading the book, but I do believe it is a book that young readers would enjoy having read to them. Also, the copy I read was the University District Branch's and is not the 1966 edition of this book. UNI's copy is the 1993 edition featuring the illustrations by Tony Ross (copyright 1989). This particular book is also 64 pages long.
