Everybody's favorite bear and his pals romp from one adventure to another in Winnie-the-Pooh (Dell Publishingt Co., $1.50), the book that introduced Pooh to the world. A study in balance, there's more to this silly old bear than mere cuteness. With full-color illustrations by Ernest H. Shepard.

A very endearing novella which is only 10 chapters long. The words are simple enough and it makes a quick read. You could finish the whole book in a day if you have a lot of free time. There’s lots of illustrations between the pages and the paragraphs are often spaced out. The narration of this book is pretty unique. It’s like a combination of all the literary perspectives: 1st person, 2nd person and 3rd person. 1st person being the author themselves, 2nd person being Christopher Robin, and 3rd person being the various animals characters.

Revisiting this classic in audiobook form put a big smile on my face while walking my dog, folding laundry and doing other chores. The narrative is filled with timeless wisdom and would make a wonderful road trip selection. If you haven't spent time with Pooh lately, start here!

The production quality is a bit low, but its carefully and playfully read.
Take a fat and foolish bear, whose fatness and foolishness is regularly denigrated but is still shown to be loveable. I had had the idea, before hearing it, that it was written in verse, but it wasn't.

Maybe it just isn’t the version I’m used to, but in my mind, this can’t hold a candle to the BBC version narrated by Alan Bennett. It’s almost as if they tried to choose someone who was British but not TOO British. No thank you!

This was a pure joy to listen to. Narrator, Peter Dennis brought all the characters to life. I especially loved the little snorts Piglet made when he was talking, they made me laugh. I loved all of Pooh's songs, he really is a very clever bear. Highly recommended for all ages.

For all that Winnie-the-Pooh has been lauded and cherished, it's still a highly underrated bunch of novels. Not only is the Hundred-Acre Wood rife with personality and character that has appeal for both children and adults, but there is a great deal of philosophical significance built into the story. The characters can represent any number of movements and literary perspectives, and they seem happily aware of that. They are comfortable, adored, and they know they're in a book. I mean, what more could you want? It doesn't hurt that they're stuffed animals, either. The charm and significance of Winnie-the-Pooh is timeless. Don't settle for the animated films, good as they are. This one's worth reading thrice.

Interest level: ages 4-8. The adventures of clever Owl, fearful Piglet, bouncy Tigger, melancholy Eeyore, and, of course, Pooh, a Bear of Very Little Brain. These classic stories feature subtle and sophisticated touches that will captivate older listeners as well as young fans of the Disney characters. Pooh’s story continues in The House at Pooh Corner.

As Christopher Robin says, Winnie the Pooh is a "silly old bear." Though he doesn't have too many brains, he has a lot of heart, and together with his friends Kanga, Roo, Rabbit, Owl, Eeyore, Tigger, Christopher Robin and Piglet, Winnie the Pooh has many fun adventures in the Hundred Acre Woods.

Piglet noticed that even though he had a Very Small Heart, it could hold a rather large amount of Gratitude.

Here is Edward Bear, coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin. It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it. And then he feels that perhaps there isn’t. Anyhow, here he is at the bottom, and ready to be introduced to you. Winnie-the-Pooh.

"When you wake up in the morning, Pooh," said Piglet at last, "what's the first thing you say to yourself?"
"What's for breakfast?" said Pooh. "What do you say Piglet?"
"I say, I wonder what's going to happen exciting today?"
Pooh nodded thoughtfully.
"It's the same thing," he said.
