"Considering the Peculiar Character of the War in Which the Country Is Now Engaged, Our Relations to Those Who Have Enlisted in It, and the Unspeakable Importance of Saving Them From Forming, During Their Camp-life, the Habits of Irreverence and Profanity ... Resolved, That It Is Our Most Pressing and Sacred Duty to Do Whatever We Can to Prevent These Evils; That We Think That Much May Be Done by Furnishing Our Soldiers ... the Bible and Other Good Books
