I read through this a few times. The first time(s) the interest and wonder of the photographs more or less won my attention... and then the final time I was more closely considering the 5 topics that Szarkowski outlines. The book provides a frame of mind for examining photographs, and is overall helpful to keep in mind for making / creating photographs, as each topic is a choice the photographer can make.
