A entertaining read. The politics between the church and secular authority is quite factual...both feeding off of each other. I look forward to reading the others in this series. SO VERY sad that we have lost this lovely author.

This was a delightful read, even though i jumped in the series at book 2 and had no idea of the background of the characters. Very evocative of the era.

I enjoyed this book more than I did the previous one in the series, "A Play of Treachery" -- probably because I enjoy a story about people more than I do one about politics. It was good to have Joliffe back among the players.
