Nobel Prize laureate Toni Morrison's spellbinding new novel is a Faulknerian symphony of passion and hatred, power and perversity, color and class that spans three generations of black women in a fading beach town.

In life, Bill Cosey enjoyed the affections of many women, who would do almost anything to gain his favor. In death his hold on them may be even stronger. Wife, daughter, granddaughter, employee, mistress: As Morrison's protagonists stake their furious claim on Cosey's memory and estate, using everything from intrigue to outright violence, she creates a work that is shrewd, funny, erotic, and heartwrenching.

Settle down with me
Cover me up
Cuddle me in

Lie down with me
And hold me in your arms

And your heart's against my chest, your lips pressed in my neck
I'm falling for your eyes, but they don't know me yet
And with a feeling I'll forget, I'm in love now

Kiss me like you wanna be loved
You wanna be loved
You wanna be loved
This feels like falling in love
Falling in love
We're falling in love

Settle down with me
And I'll be your safety
You'll be my lady

I was made to keep your body warm
But I'm cold as the wind blows so hold me in your arms

Oh no
My heart's against your chest, your lips pressed in my neck
I'm falling for your eyes, but they don't know me yet
And with this feeling I'll forget, I'm in love now

When I saw the cover of Love by Toni Morrison it quickly grabbed my attention because it was written in gold with a red background so I thought it would be a beautiful love story. I thought it was going to be a romance about two people falling in love so I was excited to read it. The story revolves around Mr. Cosy a success black business man who died leaving a very ambiguous will that said “the house was for his sweet Cosy child” which left everyone wondering who this person was. The will left his granddaughter and his wife feuding after he died. Mr. Cosy was much respected in the community but he had very dark past which led this 52 year old grandfather to marry the eleven year old playmate of his granddaughter Christine. Another twist in the story is the love Mr. Cosy had for Celestial a prostitute in the community who is scorned by everyone. In the story one woman known as “L” was the only one who was respected by the feuding women and had the ability to make peace. To further her purpose of gaining the house she employed a girl as her personal assistant name Junior who turned out to be a common criminal whose actions had consequences. Toni Morrison is great writer she always spends time to give a detail background of each character in the story which form a base for their actions later in the story. If you’re looking for love story this is the wrong book for you, it’s more about revenge, hatred and in the end forgiveness & healing. I would recommend this book to older people who don’t mind long reads.
