* 1/2 stars. A divorced young mother of a teenage daughter buys a barn near Oxford, England intending to open her own restaurant. Her ex-husband dies of a gun-shot wound in Singapore, their former home. Was it murder or suicide? An unknown daughter of said former husband arrives on the scene. Sounds like an intriguing scenario, but for me the book fell flat and was far too predictable in far too many ways. Cannot recommend.

They happen upon a kind village pub owner and his wife who befriend them and help them regain their self-confidence. Carol works hard at the pub and dreams of converting a nearby old barn into a restaurant. Just as she sees things shaping up, several obstacles come her way. A very interesting turn of events unfolds. Mother and daughter work through them all and their differences to become close friends. Reviewed by CP
