I don't know . . . Austin says she wrote this book to inspire young girls to pursue the sciences, but I don't think I would offer this boring and tedious book to my daughter or a younger sister to inspire!
Dr. Austin doesn't even explain the difference between wx and climate until well in the book [p. 166 or thereabouts].
Major annoyance: On pp. 120 -- 124, Austin gives the false, planted news story explanation for the collapse of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge - - it was due to the company cutting corners, firing the first engineer because he wouldn't substitute poor grade materials the original design called for, and hired a different engineer who went along! In all probability, had the original materials been used, the bridge would still be here.
This book reads more like an advertisement for Austin's company, WeatherExtreme Ltd., than anything else.
[Reminds me of a math compendium, compiled by a mathematician, who incorrectly claims that Milgram's experiment indicated we are all six degrees of separation from one another?!?! Stanley Milgram's degrees of separation study demonstrated THAT WHEN THERE IS A CONNECTION BETWEEN TWO PEOPLE, it averages out to six to seven degrees of separation! It is utterly impossible for everyone to be six degrees of separation from everyone else! Utterly absurd!]
