R.W. Stearns writes to William Lloyd Garrison sending him an article written by a "person of some talen, in the ordinary walk of life" in response to an article published in the last issue of the Liberator, where Garrison addressed the charges of "infidelity" being made against him and his paper. She asks Garrison to publish the article she has sent him and a response to it "for the sake of many wavering minds." She acknowledges that while it is critical of the Garrison, she still believes that "we shall be treated with courtesy & civility," and if he publishes it, he can then answer the letter's questions "at length." Stearns asks Garrison not to publish this letter or "any thing whereby the author of the com[munication] will be made known to our friends immediately around us," and requests that he send her a copy of the Liberator with the published letter and response.
