These illustrations are beautiful! The artist focused most of the color in the picture on to the main character on each page making her the beautiful spot that draws your eye to her, making her beautiful in a time where being "colored" was supposed to be an insult. Loved the artist's subtle way of throwing that idea out the door.

Good story about the author herself's experiences back in the 1950's and the segregation of where the colored could not attend , but there was one
SPECIAL place where ALL could go .
Good ending to the story.
