Is this a case of art imitating life? Another excellent season that showcases the fact that politics is more about ego than anything else. What else to say... it's Kevin Spacey folks! Kevin Spacey!!!! A stellar performance once again.
Great cast, excellent writing and directing, and just enough intrigue to keep the show moving forward. Well worth the watch.

A big improvement over Season 3. However, some story lines just don't seem to be moving forward at all.

This is a great series. Sometimes pretty much fantasy, but always fun to watch!

What a disappointment! Writers choked possibly b/c they may have been waiting for approval on a subsequent season. No other way to explain such an anti-climactic, utterly implausible season. The English ending much more satisfying. Nevertheless worth it to see Claire's rejoinder when her younger, prettier competition with two obnoxious brats asks if she regrets not having kids. Claire's reply: No. Have you ever regretted having them?

Series is getting long in the tooth with the same generic dirty politics, back stabbing, power abuse and diplomacy intrigue. With the exception of the "Open Convention," the new elements helped to make season four palatable but not extraordinary or fresh anymore, mostly time fillers for season five.

Mother: When you were small... you used to... used to ask me to make it stop, the dark. Do you remember? .. And I promised you I would...in the morning. But, damn it, you would sit at that window... every night... trying to make the sun rise, all by yourself. Your daddy would put you in bed... after you'd fallen asleep with your face against the glass. And I was so jealous.
Claire: Of me and Daddy?
Mother: That you believed. You believed you could make the sun rise.

-Nobody needs to worry about me.
Seth: Yeah, somebody does...because this scorched-earth policy is bad for us. I don't give a rat's ass about LeAnn Harvey. We need her. And you need me. And we both need you. At your best.
-I'm fine.
Seth: Are you? Instead of having me do damage control, you're having me do damage to one of our own.
-- I am trying to protect the president.
Seth: And I'm trying to protect you... from yourself.

Doug: If I can't get your loyalty, I will have your obedience!

Tom: Hi, Mrs. Hale. My name's Tom. It's Thomas Yates, the novelist.
Claire: You've probably heard of him.
Mother: Mmm, I think everything since John Cheever isn't worth readin'.
Claire: We make each other stronger. Can we agree to that?
Frank: When it's working, but it's not working.
===
Frank: Claire is the First Lady of the United States, and you still think she made the wrong choice.
Claire's Mother: Reduced to tabloid gossip? She might as well be living in that trailer park you come from.
Frank: Well, it was a peach farm. But you're right, I am still white trash. I just happen to be white trash that lives in the White House.
Claire's Mother: Not even being president could give you any class.
===
Frank: I said you were nothing in the Oval without me. It's the other way around.

Tom: Is it true, what Hammerschmidt wrote?
Claire: No.
Tom: That's the first time you've lied to me... since you stopped lying to me.
===
Claire: I'm done trying to win over people's hearts.
Frank: Let's attack their hearts.
Claire: We can work with fear.
Frank: Yes, we can.
===
Terrorist: The moment bigotry becomes a form of patriotism, America is no longer America.
===
Hannah: Do you regret it, not having children? Oh, I'm sorry. That's too personal.
Claire: Do you ever regret having them?
===
Tom: Do you want it to be good, or do you want it to be yours?
===
Frank: Do you what separates politicians from the rest of the species? A politician is the one who would drown a litter of kittens for 10 minutes of prime time.
