This book takes you right into the barrio with Danny, who has spent recent years living only with his white mother. He speaks no Spanish, but doesn't fit into his prep school. The families of his uncles have him for the summer and we have as little idea of what drives him to rarely speak as they do. All the other characters are vividly sketched as they, and baseball, open Danny to a fuller life. de la Pena's first book, Ball Don't Lie, is excellent too. I found his description of an established ghetto basketball game rivetting and accurate. I can't speak for the baseball in Mexican Whiteboy, but the story is interesting and ultimately uplifting.

I decided not to finish reading it , i got bored
I was disappointed in the lack of depth in the characters
the start is also very tumultuous.
I picked it up thinking it would be a good sports read with a strong message about discrimination.
I love baseball, it is my passion but i did not lve this book.
Maybe I made a mistake not continuing the book and it ends up getting mor interesting.
anyways it got great reviews so maybe I am mistaken.
I would stilll give this book a try, it was not for my liking but maybe someone else would enjoy it more.
