Have not seen the previous seasons. I thought it was wonderful. Of course, it is nothing like the book. Don't care as long as I am entertained.

The series finally ran out of steam. IMO they rode this horse one two many times around the same track.

You would think judging from the first few episodes that prison life isn't so bad compared to that in the cruel world outside, what with the healthy gardening, gourmet cooking, chic hairdressing, chatty socializing, courteous consensual sex and so on. As mellow as a country club.
Only in the last episodes do a few splinters appear. The comedy is there (e.g. pantie business, kitchen antics, special toast) but the drama has lost much of its steam.
The few finale cliffhangers might keep me watching for more.

Best episode yet. Hopefully the last as it has a strong happy, yet sad ending with unanswered questions that should be left to the viewer to solve. The first episode started out with some shocking lesbian sex scenes in the prison's showers. Just to get us hooked and wanting more. The second season was the worst. A total sleeper with everything revolving around Vee's takeover or Red (which is too boring to explain about and was so easily forgettable).
Now this third season was really cool. Frequent flashbacks to each inmate's (we have come to know) past and childhood. We come to really understand what makes them tick, why they are the way they are, or what lead to their incarceration. If you are just watching this series for the first time, start with season one, then three BUT SKIP two. That's my recommendation.

Piper is getting on my nerves as well, I am glad that I am not the only one who feels that way. What is bothering me is the graphic sex scenes between Caputo and Natalie Fig, the former assistant Warden, they are unnecessary and I feel that the writers are trying to shock us and see how far they can push the boundaries. The writers need to stop thinking like 13 year old boys and use their talents in other scenes.

Sept 1 2016.....after watching the first two discs, I have to say I am getting bored with this series, it is just too kooky and unrealistic. Will continue watching, if it doesn't pick up, I'm not sure I will continue with the next season!

The writing for Season 3 is not as sharp as the 1st 2 seasons. The 1st episode of the 1st disc is especially lame. Hopefully, this is not the beginning of the end.

Arguably the weakest season of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, I still loved it. There is too much time spent with Piper this season, a character who, for me, wore out her welcome in the first season. She was simply, as creator Jenji Kohan describes her, a means to tell the stories of far more underrepresented and dramatically more interesting characters on the show. There are characters introduced this season that strike a chord and others that feel lacklustre; some favourites are shuffled away for the majority of the series, leaving a bit of an emotional gap among the roster of usual suspects. A lot of shifting in the cast and in the focus makes this season feel a bit too much like an experiment to see if audiences approved of changes. I appreciate the direction ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK moved towards in the fourth season, but this third one left me a little disappointed comparatively. That being said, any episode of ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK is usually a thousands time greater than anything else one could watch, so I still very highly recommend this third season.

Probably the best season so far. The development of the characters is good and the flashbacks are very insightful. Two main characters are "absent" after just a few episodes. Of course their storylines make it so they can be back but it makes you wonder. Hmm. Also, I'm not sure if this is intentional by the writers of the show, but Piper is getting on my nerves now.
