I was a trifle iffy about this one at first, because while WWI books are like catnip for me, I find YA books set during this time to sometimes, frustratingly, lean too heavily towards over-explaining the historical context to the readers. Hooper is guilty of that to a certain extent, and I was never terribly invested in the romantic subplot (which, honestly, could have been omitted entirely), but I thought this glimpse into the life of a VAD nurse was actually quite interesting, and I'm likely to pick up the sequel when it's released, as the book's ending clearly paves the way for Poppy's story to continue.
