If you like to read a good cookbook; this is one of those you can both read and bake from, and in the process learn the history behind American national and regional favorites. I learned why and how American cake baking differs from European and really enjoyed the recipes. This is one I might actually buy!

Just listened to a podcast that interviewed Anne Byrn. What a fascinating book, to see how history, like food shortages or traveling across the country, has influenced baking. I'm sure my pants won't thank me for reading this book though...
