Great book about the perils of young Mexicans living in poverty, with few choices, who are willing to take huge risks to live in a land with opportunities. Another theme explores what it truly means to be a parent - particularly, a mother. Beautifully written; I had a hard time putting it down.

This is a complex, multilayered story of love and sacrifice. There are some heavy issues here - childlessness, immigration, separation - but through it all the author keeps the reader so involved with the characters that you can't help wanting to know what comes next. I loved it and will definitely look for more from Sekaran!

A heartbreaking and wonderfully written story about what makes a family involving fertility treatments, foster families, adoption, both documented and undocumented immigrants, la migra. One Lucky boy with two mothers. A little over ambitious and needed some editing.
