Clearly, Bruen's Jack Taylor (as character and series) is an acquired taste that I have compared elsewhere to an appreciation for such writers as Chuck Palahniuk or Dennis Lehane. Bruen ventures fearlessly into the back alleys and underculture of Galway, where intense (and sometimes indiscriminate) violence is standard fare, fueled by equal parts guilt, grief, and visceral responses to a visceral world. Add in an ability to manage elegantly a number of unrelated plot lines, create dialogue that has been best described as "lacerating," and build secondary and even tertiary characters that are intriguing and complex in their own right...

Bruen's Jack Taylor novels are classic noir at its best. Darkness balanced with delicacy, moral ambiguity with a somewhat unsettling sense of logic and centeredness.

One of the best Taylor yet. Well crafted. Rough and tough action. No holds bar. Very satisfying. Kick ass action. Taylor is now very clops to Brant, another Bruen's hero.

Yeah, I know these are formulaic, but then again, it's Ken Bruen's 'Jack Taylor' formula and I can no more resist it than a bowl full of S&V potato chips. I love the seamless flow of dialogue, from internal directly to oral. No description, just straight action and bitter observation.
