"Sybil and Blake Gregory have established a predictable, well-ordered Manhattan life—she as a cutting-edge design authority and museum consultant, he in high-tech investments—raising their teenagers Andrew and Caroline and six-year-old Charlie. But everything changes when Blake is offered a dream job he can’t resist as CEO of a start-up in San Francisco. He accepts it without consulting his wife and buys a magnificent, irresistibly underpriced historic Pacific Heights mansion as their new home. The past and present suddenly collide for them in the elegant mansion filled with tender memories and haunting portraits when an earthquake shocks them the night they arrive. The original inhabitants appear for a few brief minutes. In the ensuing days, the Gregorys meet the large and lively family who lived there a century ago: distinguished Bertrand Butterfield and his gracious wife Gwyneth, their sons Josiah and little Magnus, daughters Bettina and Lucy, formidable Scottish matriarch Augusta and her eccentric brother Angus. All long since dead. All very much alive in spirit—and visible to the Gregorys and no one else. The two families are delighted to share elegant dinners and warm friendship. They have much to teach each other, as the Gregorys watch the past unfold while living their own modern-day lives."--

This book was "okay", not horrible but not great either.

I don't believe in ghosts or generally like this type of book. Danielle Steel handle the subject with grace and dignity, this book was interesting and entertaining. I really enjoyed reading about the past and present and the two families involved along with their history. My father was born in 1919, so it made it really interesting to me.
Excellent read kept me up all night!!

Did not like this book at all - I do not believe in ghosts, so I read up until the 2nd Chapter when the entire family saw the ghosts of the previous owners from 100 years ago walk by them on the stair case and further into the book they all sit down together and have dinner in the dining room -too far fetched for me. Didn't finish this book.

Danielle Steel states in her introduction to this book that she does not like Ghost Stories or books about Time Travel; yet in 'Past Perfect' she has written a book which is a perfect blend of both. I too count myself among those who don't like this genre but I must confess Steel has handled these topics well in the book. Sybil and Blake Gregory and their family leave a perfect life in New York for an untested one in San Francisco. More importantly unlike the usual men in Steel's women-centric novels, Blake decides on buying a beautiful old mansion to live in without consulting Sybil. The plot moves rapidly and without being a spoiler all I can say is that the house brings the Gregories and the original owners together with the past colliding with the present in a glorious way. As always this book too is about love and emotions as two families a century apart share their lives. Well worth a read if you are a Steel fan and worth trying out even if you aren't.

I truly enjoyed this new book by Danielle Steele. It's actually historical fiction --- when a modern-day family moves into a centuries old mansion in California and encounter - the residents from 100 years ago. The friendships that develop between the two generations -- 100 years apart is very interesting. I really liked the ending.
