The title is misleading, since this book is not about voyageurs at all. It really should be called 'Quaker in the Wilderness'. Voyageurs were a distinct type of French Canadian fur traders and wilderness men, who made many discoveries in Canada and America, and ruled the extensive fur trade in both countries. This book is not about the Frenchmen, but about an English-speaking Quaker, who is not quite comfortable around these rough men and their rough ways. Poor baby. If you want to know about the real Voyageurs, read "Songs Upon The Rivers".
