The Bone and Sinew of the Land

America's Forgotten Black Pioneers and the Struggle for Equality
Jan 20, 2021dnk rated this title 5 out of 5 stars
Even more devastating than Ibram Kendi's Stamped from the Beginning, which at least provided academic distance. This story focuses on the lives and struggles of black pioneering farmers in what we would now call the Midwest, who proved that African Americans were more than capable of taking care of themselves -- and that uplift suasion was no protection against white prejudice. Necessary reading for anyone who cares about American history.
