Notes
- Ms. codex.
- In Latin and Italian.
- Bibliographic record created by BPL staff based on description by Dr. Lisa Fagin Davis.
- Secundo folio: ...che facia alcuna
- Collation: Parchment, fol. i + 56 + 1 ; 1-5¹⁰ 6¹⁰⁻⁴ (fol. 51-54 are singletons lacking their conjugates, fol. 55/56 is a conjugate bifolium) ; modern pencil arabic foliation, upper outer corner of each page, numbers final flyleaf "57".
- Layout: Single column, 34 lines (ruled, not entirely filled). Writing lines in blind or light brown ink.
- Script: Original entries in a southern gothic textualis libraria (rotunda) by a single scribe, additional entries by individual signatories in various cursives and bookhands, into the 17th century.
- Decoration: Capitals at head of each section alternating red and blue, paragraph marks at beginning of each line alternating red and blue, most lines left unfilled. Opening 12-line historiated initial in gold and colors on fol. 1 of St. Bernardine holding a book in his left hand and, in his right, his trademark, a disk at the end of a stick on which was depicted the sun (the icon he actually carried with him as he preached also included the monogram IHS, not visible here).
- Binding: 15th-century blind-stamped and tooled sheep/goat over wooden boards, lacking clasps and two upper bosses on front cover, one hasp lacking on back cover, other bosses and hasps preserved, rebacked.
- Origin: Written in Bologna after 1454 (the establishment of the Bernardine order),
- Provenance: With additions and signatures added through the year 1621. The first few names on each leaf are written in the rounded gothic hand of Santis Bon Cordis (see fol. 1v, line 6), apparently recopying the original register, leaves of which are now serving as flyleaves and pastedowns. Various lot numbers inside front and back cover.
- Immediate source of acquisition: Bought by BPL in 1949 from Otto Ranschburg.
- Call number: MS f Med.111.
- Former call number: MS 1539.
- Bibliography: Ellen M. Oldham, "The Register of the Company of St. Bernardine," BPLQ II (1950): 281-284.
